Basic tips on creating, managing and using Groups.

You will find all Groups you have access to in the group section. This may include groups you've created and Synergy synched groups.
You will only be able to add district recipients that you have access for to a group. You can invite people outside the district to join as well.When sending an sms message the text will have the school site added at the beginning of the text. (ex. [MSBSD] You have a text). If you send from a group we recommend you begin the text with the group name. (ex. [WHS Tennis] You have a text]

CREATE NEW STATIC GROUPSee More

Users can create as many Static Groups as they want but can only add recipients they have access too. They will have to manage these groups as they change.

Static Group includes members you add or is a self enrollment group. You will build your group by selecting students or users, entering contacts, uploading a CSV, or by allowing self-enrollment as in a public group.

Options for groups are as follows (Private is default):

Public Anyone in the district schools can view the group's contents and join the group.Private Only group members you add below can view the group's contents.Confidential Private group that hides the display name of the group in feed posts and notifications when other recipients are included. Members will not know they are a part of this group.

Advanced Options (Hide Directory is default): Allow group members to post to this group By default, only group owners and group managers can post in a group. Click to allow all group members to post.

Hide directory At your district, by default, only group owners, group managers and admins can view directory. Uncheck to allow members to view directory.

Make comments public By default, comments and replies are private and can be viewed only by the comment author, post author, and ParentSquare admins. Click to make comments and replies viewable by anyone who can see the post (only affects comments on future posts, does not change existing posts).

Group Owners vs Managers vs Users:

Group Owners can have full access to settings and can add/remove members. They can also do anything below.
Group Managers have limited access to settings and can only remove group members. They can post to the group. Group Managers can see/manage all comments and see past posts.
Group Users can only see their own comments and do not see posts previous to joining group.

SYNERGY GROUPS (Auto-Update Groups)See More

Synergy groups are managed in synergy and staff added to the synergy group will be in ParentSquare. This data synchs nightly

Synergy Groups: Your school office will manage groups in synergy.

Auto-Update Groups: You can use combinations of data coming over from Synergy to create your own groups that will synch nightly.

This will create a group with all Parent and Students of all Kindergarten students with an IEP at your school. You can add as many conditions as necessary. Students who get an new IEP today will automatically add to your group tomorrow while students who no longer have an IEP will be removed from the group.

SELF-ENROLLMENT GROUPS (COMMUNITY GROUPS)See More

A Community Group is a public self-enrollment group. Users from outside your district will be able to join the group from your school or district's Join Community Groups page.

COMMUNITY GROUPS:
Admins or group owners may send posts to the community group. Group members receive email notifications via email either instantly or digest. Group members may navigate to the group page to read posts, too. These “community users" will only receive notifications for posts sent specifically to the community groups to which they belong.

Only owners can post to the group.
Only owners and admin can view the member directory.
Comments are private and can only be viewed by the comment author, post author and admin.
The group owner(s) of a community group will receive an email notification when someone joins or leaves the group.

Create a public district-level or school-level group in ParentSquare, check “Public” and “Allow community users to join this group”. This will display the group as a choice to join on the Community Groups sign-up page for the school or district.

Admins can add guest members by entering name, email and confirming that the school has consent to add these guest users. Group owners or admin can add existing users by name, role or staff ID. Note: You can instead provide the URL to the Join Community Groups page and let users sign up on their own.
A Public group can be converted to a Community group.
Note: if a group has student members, you cannot convert to a Community Group and "Make Community Group" will not be an option in Actions.
