Focused InboxSee More

Be aware when using the focused inbox that some important emails may be in the other inbox. If you want to change from the focused inbox follow the steps below to change your settings.

In the desktop outlook application, on the View tab.
Toggle the Show Focused Inbox
This will give you an All and Unread as opposed to Focused or Other.

Managing Wanted Email (Email Quarantine)See More

Creating a Whitelist user email address or company domain within your “Barracuda” Email Quarantine filter, log into Email Quarantine from Employee Quick Links, using you email address format, first.last@matsuk12.us

Select the tab “Settings” then 2) Sender Policy
Policy dropdown use “Exempt” to allow senders email.
enter the FULL user e-mail (no-reply@schooldismissalmanager.com) or just the company domain with the @ symbol (@dell.com)
Add comment and then click ADD.
Please NOTE you cannot add both Exempt and Blocked for any user or Domain. So first look in the BLOCKED Policy list and remove it prior to adding to the Exempt Policy list.

Managing Unwanted EmailSee More

If you have unwanted email in your Inbox, there are several different actions available depending on the type email and actions you’ve already taken. Read below to help decide the best course of action. This doesn't work for email on a mobile device.

What to do if you’ve received a suspicious/unwanted email

Have you clicked on any of the links in the email, or opened any attachments?
1. YES – Contact the CallCenter at 761-HELP immediately.
2. NO – Continue to the next question
Take a look at the email. Is it a malicious email trying to get you to send information, money, or take immediate actions? Or is it marketing/advertising from a legitimate organization?
1. MALICIOUS – Click on the “Phish Alert Button” . The email will be deleted and a copy forward to IT for analysis. You most likely will not receive any additional communication regarding the email unless IT needs to gather more information.
2. MARKETING – Continue to the next question
Is this a marketing email that you have seen repeatedly?
1. YES – You can choose to ignore or delete the email, or you can block the sender by managing your Email Quarantine allow/block list.
2. NO – You may want to just ignore/delete the email, but you can add it to your Barracuda block list using the link above if you wish.

What is a "verified" email?

What accounts are currently using MSBSD Verified email? Note: any mail received from these addresses without the MSBSD Verified indicator should be treated as fradulent/spam. Postmaster@matsuk12.us munis@matsuk12.us

This verified label (or lock icon) will appear on emails that are sent from in-district accounts. This indicator means that the email has been verified and therefore can be trusted as safe. Below are some examples of how you may see this indicator appear when you have received a "verified" email.

Note: Different mobile devices and mail apps may display the indicator differently or not at all. To be certain a message is legitimate, we recommend using Outlook or Outlook Web to verify a message.

Applying rules in OutlookSee More

Rules can automatically sort mail, set up Out Of Office replies, and much more. For example you can use Rules to automatically move messages received from a colleague to corresponding folder.

Click the “Home” tab.
In the “Move” group, click “Rules”
Click “Manage Rules & Alerts,” the e-mail rules box will appear.
Click “New Rule,” the “Rules Wizard” box will appear.
Highlight an option of how you want Outlook to handle an email process, and then click “Next”.
In the rules wizard box, under “Step 1: Select Condition(s)” choose which conditions you would like to apply and click their corresponding checkboxes.
Under “Step 2: Edit the rule description,” click an underlined value. Follow the on-screen instructions for whatever condition you clicked (this step varies for each condition).
When you have finished editing the rule description, click “Next”.
In the next screen, choose which actions you would like Outlook to perform when it meets the criteria of the conditions that you chose in steps 5-6 (such as which folder you would like to move the email to). BE SURE TO HAVE DESIRED ‘SPECIFIED FOLDER’ CREATED IN ADVANCE!
Edit the rule description as explained in step 6, then click “Next”.
Refer to steps 5-9 for the exceptions screen, as the process is very similar, then click “Next”.
Type an original and identifiable name for your rule in the “Specify a name for this rule” box.
Check the boxes in the “Step 2: Setup rule options” as needed, the click “Finish”.

FORWARD GOOGLE MAIL TO OUTLOOK

After signing into your MSBSD Google Account use the waffle at the top right navigate to Gmail.

All Staff and Students have a Google account and therefore an @apps.matsuk12.us email account.
Your email address is your network username+@apps.matsuk12.us (ex, ab012345@apps.matsuk12.us)
Google notifications for Google Classroom and other Google apps will go to this address.
You can forward your Google email to your outlook account by setting up a rule in Google email.

Click the gear icon to open settings.
Click on 'See all settings'.
Go to the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
Choose 'Forward a copy of incoming mail to' and choose your outlook email address.
Using the dropdown choose what you want to happen to each email after they forward. If you choose 'mark Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District Mail's copy in the inbox', forwarded emails will no be bold. This allows you to easily see if an email didn't forward.
Click Save.
Send an email to your gmail account to confirm the process is completed successfully.
