Library Software

Overview:

This service will assist school library media specialists on issues with Workflows, Enterprise OPAC, and managing the library collection. Workflows, the library automation software, is managed through the Alaska Library Catalog (ALC) consortium and run through University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA.) All policies and procedures regarding Workflows are developed and overseen by ALC.

Features and Benefits:

  • New staff working in a school library media center must receive training before gaining access to the Workflows system. Submit a service request for this training.
  • Media Specialists can find detailed help pages in Workflows for all Workflows issues and training needs, including the following: circulation, cataloging, reports and inventory. See the Knowledge Base article “Using Workflows Online Help” to learn tips about access.
  • Workflows install directions can be found in the Knowledge Base and can be installed by Media Specialists or submit a service request.
  • Collection Development (ordering/weeding/organization) should be conducted according to the District Collection Development Policy, and follow relevant Workflows procedures.
  • Enterprise OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) is operated by UAA. See Knowledge Base article “Enterprise Library Catalog” for basic instructions.

Authorized Users:

All MSBSD Employees who work directly with Workflows library automation software and in school libraries.

Request Process:

  • Select Request Service from the menu on the right.
  • Provide a "Short Description" of the issue. This will become the title of the Service Request and the title of any related emails.
  • Provide a "Detailed Description" of the issue including the Workflows Wizard involved, and sample user ID or item ID where appropriate.
  • Include screenshots when possible.
  • Fill out the form with as much information as you can provide, including things you have already tried to resolve your issue.
More detail is better than less. For example, if the issue ONLY happens when a specific action is performed this would allow for faster and better troubleshooting.

User Responsibilities:

  • You have accessed the KB and the search feature above to look for any assistance with your issue.
  • You have checked Workflows Help.

Requirements and Prerequisites:

Determine that the error/issue you are reporting is repeatable, making sure that scanning and data entry was correct.

More detail is appreciated and allows for faster resolution.
