Overview

This article goes over the changes that have been made between the legacy version of Outlook, and the newer version known as "One Outlook". Note that some features that are present in the older version of outlook have not yet made it to One Outlook yet, and will be added at a later date.

Switching Between the Outlook VersionsSee More

Currently it is possible to switch between the old and new Outlook versions.

To do this, have Outlook open and click the switch button located at the top right of the window beneath the close and minimize button.

After clicking on the switch, Outlook may prompt for feedback. Select to skip feedback and Outlook will close and begin opening the opposite version.

This switch can be seen in both versions of Outlook and can be used to swap between the newer and older versions.

There are several features present in the old version of Outlook that have yet to be added to One Outlook. These include the following:

Offline Access
Support for Yahoo, iCloud, and IMAP emails
ICS file type support
Opening or saving emails as .msg or .eml files
Clicking links to open a draft email.
The ability to share accounts in your "Shared With Me" section

Microsoft has stated that they plan to eventually bring all the features of the legacy Outlook to One Outlook, but for now, these features remain missing.

The features that have been moved, and where to find them, are listed below:

Tasks was formerly on the navigation bar on the left side of the application.
- Tasks can now be found on the right of the top blue banner.
Notes was formerly on the navigation bar on the left side of the application.
- Notes can now be found in the folders of each Outlook account.

Missing Options in RibbonSee More

Missing option in the ribbon can occur when the user's account has a customized ribbon or the user is looking for an option that isn't in the default ribbon view.

To resolve this issue, the user can either switch the ribbon back to classics view, or add the option into the simplified ribbon:

Click the ribbon display option arrow located on the far right of the ribbon. This will bring up a drop down menu with the options of Classic Ribbon and Simplified Ribbon.
Select Classic Ribbon, and all options available in One Outlook will be added onto your ribbon.

Missing Actions for an EmailSee More

Missing actions for an email can occur when the user has changed their default actions, or is looking for an action that hasn't been added.

To resolve this issue, the user can add the action back into their message surface.

While an email is open, select the More Actions (three dots) on the top right end of the email message surface.
From the drop down menu, select Customize Actions.
The Customize Actions pop-up will display. From here you can look for the action you want to add and select the check mark next to it.
- NOTE: Be sure to select Save in the bottom right before closing the pop-up
